First Batch of Banned Plastic Products Released: Hainan to Ban Disposable Non-degradable Plastics Since December
On March 19th, the Ecological Environment Department of Hainan Province released the“List of Non-degradable Plastic Products Prohibited from Sale and Use in Hainan Province(First Batch)" (hereinafter referred to as the‘List’).
The List specifically specifies a series of non-degradable disposable plastics products, including plastic bags, plastic films, paper-plastic compound bags, rubbish bags, throw-away lunch boxes, bowls, cups, straws and other single-use plastic products made of polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
According to the plastic ban, the production, sale, and use of all the plastic products listed will be banned since December 1st, 2020.
The List also provides the requirements of substitutes, including reusable products, completely biodegradable products,cloth, paper and biomass products(such as bagasse,bamboo fiber and starch). Besides,the List in particular highlights that biomass products shall not contain any non-degradable components.
