Countries around the world have legislated to restrict, prohibit and levy taxes on the use of petroleum-based non-degradable plastics, while encouraging the promotion and use of biodegradable materials.
San Francisco: a bill has been passed on March 27, 2007, banning the use of non-biodegradable plastic bags in supermarkets. It is required in 2016 in Seattle that all tablewares for eat in and take away in all restaurants should be compostable.
France: proposed non biodegradable disposable shopping bags (Biological base content: 40%)
Italy: since January 2011, the use of non biodegradable plastic bags (thickness less than 100μm ) has been prohibited.
Britain: the house of Commons discusses the tax exemption for biodegradable shopping bags and charges for disposable shopping bags.
Germany:A 100% disposal tax has been levied on some plastic products since 2006
South Korea: Since 1999 shopping bags have been charged , and the use of plastic bags was reduced by 60%
Japan: Its banned to use non-degradable plastic garbage bags and packaging bags since January 1, 1995, and a disposal tax on non-degradable plastic bags has been levied since 2006.
